FIGHT GUM DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH LAUNCHES IN AUSTRALIA
FEBRUARY has been designated ‘Gum Disease Awareness Month’ in a national and global effort to raise public awareness of gum disease.
The awareness campaign will launch in Australia with two events in Brisbane and Sunshine Coast on Friday, 7 February and Thursday, 13 February, respectively.
The event will be open to all clinical health professionals and is aiming to educate the front line health professionals about what is involved in gum disease, indicators for diagnosis, and what options for therapy are available.
The Australian arm of the awareness campaign is being coordinated by Dr Christopher Barker, a Queensland-based periodontist, to highlight the prevalence of gum disease and the consequences of untreated disease. The awareness campaign aims to encourage patients to take an active role in better oral health through prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
"This is the first event ever with the sole aim to educate not just dentists, but other clinical health professionals about the impact this disease in Australia," Dr Barker said.
Education and prevention are vital to stopping gum disease and Fight Gum Disease Australia is at the forefront of the education process. You can help raise awareness of gum disease and its treatment options.
